Woman-owned San Francisco roaster, founded in 2005 on Valencia Street.

Eileen Rinaldi managed a Torrefazione Italia in the Financial District before opening Ritual’s first café, where roasting began on a 5 kilo Probat in 2006. A production roastery in SoMa followed in 2009, and a retrofitted 1950s Probat UG-22 in 2010. Coffees come from producers in Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Mexico, Colombia, and Guatemala, bought through a relationship-based sourcing model begun in 2007.

Staff origin trips went to Honduras in 2014 and El Salvador in 2016. A new café is scheduled to open on October 22, 2026 at California and Battery in the Financial District, in the building that housed the Torrefazione Italia Rinaldi once managed.

At this shop

The shop fills a narrow storefront at 1026 Valencia Street, with a blue-tiled base under a red awning and seating out on the sidewalk. Inside, the room runs deep beneath a timber-slat ceiling, with a long dark counter down one side and a row of amber pendant lamps over the seats opposite. A window at the back looks onto foliage.
