San Francisco roaster, 14 years with El Salvador’s Cafenor as of 2026.

Alejandro Valiente runs Cafenor and has been a sourcing partner for those years; the team visited his mill in Metapán and nearby producers in February 2026. The coffee is roasted in San Francisco on a vintage German roaster, with almost all of it sourced directly.

In 2013 the owners bought the San Francisco roaster De La Paz, and its blends are sold on the Four Barrel site. In October 2026 the single origins come from Colombia, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Honduras, and Kenya. The café is on Valencia Street. The Mill on Divisadero, a joint venture with Josey Baker Bread, has been closed since a fire on June 29, 2026; as of September 2026 it was rebuilding.

At this shop

The shop fills a long room on Valencia Street, with wood-framed glass doors and tall windows facing the street trees. A wood-clad bar stands in the middle under exposed timber beams, and the roaster and sacks of green coffee sit at the back in view of the tables.

Beans

Four Barrel Coffee roasts its own beans. These are from its wider range, so not all may be served at this shop.
